I’ll never forget the day I went into the scanning room to find out the gender of my gorgeous precious baby. You always go in don’t you feeling ever so slightly nervous, but with the gender reveal it kind of takes off the nerves a bit which gets replaced with lots of excitement. I literally couldn’t have been more delighted when I was told that my little baby was a girl. I cried tears of happiness and felt I could burst!
The one thing I vowed to myself that day, was to give her all the love and care I could. But as someone that really suffered with self-esteem issues as a teen myself, I promised myself that I would ensure that this little lady grew up knowing her self-worth. Literally, I wanted her to be so abundantly sure that she had more value in herself than it was almost possible to have.
With this in mind, I’ve really invested time in trying to make this the case. Bella isn’t the most confident of children, but she does know her own self-worth, feels confident in her body and knows the importance of being kind. Only being 12 years old, we have the difficult teen years imminent and so I hope and pray that this continues.
I’ve always shared motivational quotes with Bella and she now absolutely loves them herself. We printed some off recently and she posted them around her mirror. They are a little constant reminder of some of the things that we both feel are important to remember. So, I thought I’d share with you 15 of the quotes that I think are perfect for sharing with your daughter. I’ve written a little personal message to Bella under each one:
1. Beautiful girl you can do hard things.
Some things are hard, that’s life. But you can tackle them and you should, face them with courage and determination. You can do anything you set your mind to, you just need to believe in yourself.
2. Be strong enough to let go and wise enough to wait for what you deserve.
A quote that will mean so much more as you mature… Believe me if something doesn’t feel right deep down in your gut, let it go – it isn’t serving you. You deserve the best and just wait for something to feel so right that you have no doubt in your mind it’s meant to be.
3. Don’t be afraid to fail, be afraid not to try. (Michael Jordan)
Always give things a try and put yourself forward for stuff. Don’t be paralysed with fear as you’re scared of the outcome and think that it might not work out as you want. Nothing is a failure. Whether it’s an audition or an interview, you will learn so much from the experience of having tried – more than you can imagine. So, put yourself out there and don’t let opportunities pass you by just because you’re scared you might not get the result you want.
4. Be somebody who makes everybody feel like somebody.
The way you make people feel is everything. Making people feel important, valued and special is a very special thing. People will never forget how you make them feel, so be mindful of this.
5. Keep shining beautiful one. The world needs your light.
Always remember to shine bright and not be afraid to twinkle in all your amazing glory. The value you can add to the world is more important than you could ever know.
6. Happy girls are the prettiest. (Audrey Hepburn)
Nothing is more beautiful that a happy, positive and kind soul. It will shine out of you from the inside to the outside and reflect in the most beautiful way.
7. Let your smile change the world, but don’t let the world change your smile.
With all of the things that are going on in the world right now, I think it’s a tough world to be growing up in. Some of the things we’ve seen going on of late are enough to make you question humanity. But as hard is it might seem, never let this change you and your amazing outlook on life. You are a good kind person and you should always remember kindness and positivity will always outweigh anything negative, bad and evil. Keep your faith in humanity and the good people.
8. Darling, don’t forget to fall in love with yourself first. (Carrie Bradshaw)
It’s so important to love yourself, if you don’t how can anyone else love you? You have good values and should know that you are amazing and be love the person you are. Please always remember this as it is so very important.
9. I figure if a girl wants to go ahead and be a legend, she should go ahead and be one. (Calamity Jane)
You go ahead and be anything you want to be, there are no limits and anything is possible, I truly believe in this and in you…
10. It’s difficult to follow a dream, it’s a tragedy not too.
Follow your dreams and make them all come true. I promise you, that based on my own experience you will always regret it if you don’t. You have it in your power to make your dreams happen and so go reach for them, every single one.
11. Be kinder to yourself. And then let your kindness flood the world.
It’s sometimes too easy for us to be hard on ourselves and also to put ourselves last. Please believe though, that there is nothing more important that being kind to yourself. If you’re kind to you, that kindness will over spill into everything you do. Take time for you sometimes, as us ladies get older we sometimes forget to do this – but please don’t, it’s imperative you do even when you think there is no time.
12. What makes you different or weird – that is your strength. (Meryl Streep)
Embrace everything that makes you different and love it with all you heart. This is what makes you, you. Nobody else can imitate who you truly are and what’s in your heart, no matter how they try. This will always be your strength. Some might like to call these differences weird, if that’s the case weird is good. Who wants to be the same as everybody else anyway?
13. Character. Intelligence. Strength. Style. That makes beauty.
Being beautiful isn’t about the superficial stuff like what others say you should look like or what to wear. It’s also not about what you see when you first glance at someone. It’s what’s inside, its how connected you are, it’s the way you conduct yourself and ensuring that you do it with style and grace. This doesn’t necessarily mean the clothes you wear, but being confident in who and what you are without being boastful and bragging. Having style to me means having all of the right feels on the inside without forcing them on someone. Being naturally you, that’s all…
14. The things you are passionate about are not random. They are your calling. (Fabienne Fredrickson)
Anything that you’re passionate about you MUST pursue. To feel so much passion about something, means it’s meant to be. You have danced since you were three years old and never have I seen anyone so passionate about something the way you are for dance. You work tirelessly and never give up, even when others have made you feel like you should. Practising every single day without fail, when others would skip for a day because they’re not feeling it. Keep that spirit, I totally and utterly believe in you and know that dance is you’re calling.
15. Surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher. (Oprah Winfrey)
The people you surround yourself with are THE most important thing. You end up displaying the characters of those people you choose to spend the most time with. So think about these people carefully and choose your friends wisely. Friends will lift you and make you feel so good about yourself, they’ll be loyal and do all they can for you. If someone is being unkind, telling you about something negative that someone else has said about you or is inconsistently negative, promise me to re-think your friendships. Friends are the BEST, you just need to choose the right ones.
I hope that you’ve enjoyed reading these quotes and that you find them useful for sharing with your lovely daughters too. I’d love to hear what you think of them? Please feel free to share with anyone else that you think might enjoy them too – sharing is caring :-).
