Last week Bella and I want on a girly trip to the theatre to watch The Addams Family the musical at the New Victoria Theatre in Woking. The tickets were given to me as a gift for my birthday in July. With the date in our diary for a while, we were super excited to go.
As a child, I was a huge fan of The Addams Family and absolutely loved watching it on TV. At the time back in the eighties, it was the old black and white versions that were aired… Showing my age, I know! Bella was vaguely familiar with the story and definitely knew the famous theme tune after watching the film.
We made a real night of it and went for some dinner before moving on to the theatre. I had some gorgeous pasta and Bella indulged in chicken nuggets and chips – when will she grow out of the child’s menu!
We arrived at the theatre which is just lovely. I’ve visited a few times before and really love it there. There was an amazing pianist playing on a piano at the bar, we sat and had a drink and chatted about how keen we were for the show to start. Bella bought her customary programme and searched through to see where all of the performers have trained. She notches up who studied where in the hope to one day attend for herself!
We took our seats which were amazing – right in the centre of the aisle. The set was absolutely brilliant and looked very reminiscent of the TV programme. The lights went down and we were off… I always get goose bumps at this bit!
The show started with the customary “duh-duh-duh-duh” and finger clicks that you expect with The Addams family and the whole audience joined in. You could tell straight away that the orchestra were amazing. The opening number featured the whole Addams Family and was a real showstopper. It was called “When You’re an Addam’s”. The whole cast are amazing and put everything in to the whole performance.
My favourite scene by far was Full Disclosure which was just brilliant and really was the crescendo of the whole show for me…. a real show stopping moment.
The whole show from start to finish really was amazing. The bits that stood out to me were Carrie Hope-Fletcher who played Wednesday. It’s fair to say the whole cast were amazing, but Carrie’s voice was phenomenal and she just gave the character her everything. Filled with humour (some adult), an amazing set; phenomenal cast – from the lead roles to the ensemble – it was an amazing show! Quite different from anything else I’ve seen, but great none-the -less.
The show ended to a standing ovation and a massive round of applause. I really would recommend buying tickets and going to watch. You really won’t be disappointed. Bella and I give it five stars!!
The Addams Family is currently touring in theatres across the UK. It’s definitely worth looking up to see if they are visiting a theatre near you soon.
